Troops arrived in Borneo and began trying to disarm native Dayaks and stop the persecution of settlers from other parts of Indonesia. So far, Dayaks have killed nearly 300 settlers and caused some 20,000 to flee the island. Malaysia has alerted its police and navy to prevent refugees from nearby Borneo entering Malaysia.
