Israel: Chances Are Slim

Archives

November 27, 2007: The rocket firing from Gaza has declined, but armed, and unarmed, Palestinians still try to get across the security fence. Hamas is also upset over the gathering of Arab diplomats in the United States, along with leaders from Israel, Fatah and the U.S., to try and negotiate a peace deal. This is being done without Hamas, which means that everyone there could decide to outlaw Hamas for opposing peace negotiations or deals. In any event, chances of this parley accomplishing anything are slim.

November 26, 2007: In Lebanon, the resignation of the pro-Syrian president (who is head-of-state, not the guy-in-charge) has caused pro-Syrian Hizbollah to threaten bad behavior (tantrums, demonstrations, civil war) if another pro-Syrian candidate is not chosen as president. Hizbollah also wants a new guy who is committed to the destruction of Israel.

November 21, 2007: In another attempt to bolster Fatah control in the West Bank, Israel donated 50 Russian made BTR wheeled armored vehicles to the Fatah security forces. In addition, a thousand assault rifles and two million rounds of ammo are being sent. Israeli military and police officials protested, as in the past, most weapons and equipment given to the Palestinian security forces, eventually was used against the Israelis.
