Early in the day, gunmen killed Binyamin Kahane and his wife, and wounded his five children, as the family drove through Palestinian territory. Kahane led an organization that advocated the expulsion of Arabs from Israel and the Palestinian territories. Kahane's father, Meir, founded Kach, a political party later outlawed in Israel and the US. Meir Kahane also founded the Jewish Defense League in the United States during the 1970s. Later in the day, right wing mourners of Binyamin Kahane attacked Arabs along the funeral route. Kahane supporters were suspected of conducting a drive by shooting of Arabs and making other attacks in Jerusalem. A Palestinian Authority leader was also shot and killed. Kahane's supporters have been increasing in number as the current violence goes on.
