The Israeli program of exposing corruption in the administration of Palestinian territories is having an effect. Foreign nations that have long given the Palestinian Authority millions of dollars in aid are now either cutting back or insisting on strict accounting of how the money is spent. Israel has long asserted that much of the money gets stolen or given to terrorist organizations. Both assertions turn out to be true. There are 3.9 million Palestinian refugees living throughout the Middle East. Unlike the Jewish refugees who were was driven from Arab nations after Israel was established in 1948, the Arabs who fled Israel were not allowed to settle in Arab nations. These people, and their descendents, have largely been confined to refugee camps where many live off charity and resentment about their lot.
The fighting between Israelis and Palestinians has, so far, killed 2936 (2191 Palestinians, 689 Israelis). Israeli security measures have been more successful in stopping suicide bombings within Israel. But Palestinian attacks with guns against Jewish settlers has increased. Israeli intelligence operations and raids to arrest or kill suspected terrorists continue.
