One reason Israel was able to blunt the Palestinian terror campaign was the policy of quickly arresting any suspects. In the last 30 months, 25,000 Palestinians have been arrested, and 8,000 are still held in eleven prisons. Some 18 percent of these prisoners are serving sentences of twenty years or longer. Nearly all the prisoners are males, 18 or older. Only 220 are under 18 and only 60 are women.
Deaths so far are 3,159 (2,377 Palestinians and 724 Israelis).
