A Kassam rocket, fired by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza, landed in southern Israel, several kilometers north of Gaza. The rocket landed in an open field and caused no damage. The last time a Kassam rocket was fired was two weeks ago.

The Palestinian Authority announced new commanders of the security services. Earlier, all commanders over 60 years old were forced to retire. This eliminated many ineffective officers. Also eliminated were were ten different security organizations, leaving just three. Traditionally, dictatorships maintain a multitude of security forces to insure that the dictator (in this case, the late Yassir Arafat) was not overthrown by the security forces.

On the Lebanese border, near the disputed Shebaa Farms, there was gunfire and explosions as Hizbollah made another attack.
