March1, 2007:
If Hamas does not halt its weapons build up in Gaza, Israel will come
in and destroy those stockpiles, particularly the rockets Hamas wants to fire
into southern Israel.
February
28, 2007: Israeli police commandos caught and killed a senior terrorist leader
in the West Bank, and also conducted raids of terrorist safe houses in the
ware.
February
27, 2007: Israeli police have found and destroyed three explosives labs
in the West Bank in the last few days. Israeli border security makes it
difficult to smuggle explosives into the West Bank, so its easier to use common
chemicals to create primitive, but effective, explosives in these labs.
February
25, 2007: Over the weekend, fighting between clan militias in Gaza left nearly
fifty people dead or injured. With the breakdown in government, the extended
families (clans) have organized militias to provide basic police services, and
protection from criminal gangs and other militias. This informal arrangement is
increasingly leading to violence, because of disagreements over who can do what
to whom. Some of the clans are neutral, or try to be, but most align either
with Fatah or Hamas.
February
24, 2007: Israeli police and soldiers are taking down several terrorist
organizations in the West Bank, mainly in and around Nablus. Weapons caches,
bomb factories and safe houses are being raided. Sometimes there are gun
battles when armed terrorists resist.
February
23, 2007: Egyptian police found a ton of explosives buried near the Gaza
border, and apparently there waiting to be moved into Gaza via a smuggling
tunnel. Egyptian police also arrested a suicide bomber team, including the
bomber, with his explosives vest on. The team was going to attack Israeli
tourists in Sinai. The Egyptians are finding the Palestinian terrorist groups
are increasingly working with Islamic terrorists in Egypt, in order to help
each other. The Egyptian terrorists help get weapons and explosives smuggled
into Gaza, while Gaza has a large supply of suicide bombers, terrorists in
general, and cash from Iran and Arab supporters. While the Egyptian government
officially supports the Palestinian government (Fatah more than Hamas), this
support diminishes the closer you get to Egyptian police and counter-terrorism
operations along the Gaza border.
February
22, 2007: In Lebanon, Hizbollah is building new rocket launching and
storage bunkers just north of the area in Southern Lebanon now patrolled by the
Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers. The new Hizbollah launching sites are too
far (40 kilometers) from Israel for the most common Hizbollah rocket (the 107mm
model.) So Hizbollah is building facilities that will hide and protect their
larger caliber rockets, some of which can reach into central Israel.
Meanwhile, Israel is finding roadside bombs being planted on the Lebanese
border, disguised as large rocks. Hizbollah denies it is doing this, and says
these bombs are old ones from a year or so ago.
