A first contingent of about 60 paramilitary gendarmes from Senegal, Ghana and Benin arrived, the vanguard of a force of 300. The day before, skirmishing between government troops and their former Liberian allies was reported at the village of Papadougou (near the western town of Duekoue). The Liberians had killed several civilians during a looting spree and the government retaliated by killing seven of them. - Adam Geibel
