Kurdish War: December 4, 2003

Archives

Turkey reported its security forces killed two PKK Kurds rebels in a firefight in the city of Diyarbakir. The firefight occurred December 3. A subsequent report said the Turkish forces surrounded a house inside the city and opened fire when the rebels refused to surrender. Diyarbakir is a predominantly Kurd town and a shootout in the city itself runs many political risks for Turkish forces (such as wounded civilians, etc.).
