UNMIL extended its deployment to the rebel-held towns of Tubmanburg and Tapeta over the weekend. Units would soon reach Zwedru near the eastern border with Ivory Coast. On the 3rd, 250 Ethiopian troops took up station in a town controlled by the MODEL rebel group just 35 kilometers from the eastern frontier with Ivory Coast. On the same day, Pakistani troops moved into Tubmanburg (60 kilometers northwest of Monrovia), where LURD had their military headquarters. LURD had prevented Pakistani troops from deploying to Tubmanburg on December 25, but they were allowed to establish a position at Kley Junction (15 kilometers from the town) two days later. - Adam Geibel
