Rebels and government troops have largely stopped fighting, sensing that better trained and armed peacekeepers would soon arrive. Neither side is quite sure which side the peacekeepers will be on.

There are 450 Nigerian peacekeepers now holding the main airport outside the capital. 

A seven man team of US marines landed in the capital, to help with logistics for the peacekeepers.
