Rebels launched attacks at several places,  killing 42 policemen and wounding another 75. At least eleven rebels also died and 23 policemen were taken prisoner. The rebel attacks succeeded because they massed several hundred armed men against police garrisons that rarely numbered more than a few dozen men. The worst attacks were 390 kilometers west of the capital. Other attacks were in the northeast and southwest.
