The army attacked what they described as a rebel fortress in the mountains 460 kilometers west of the capital. At least 56 rebels and six soldiers were killed. The army feels that at least a hundred rebels died, as the rebels try to carry off the bodies of their dead to prevent them from being identified. This is the largest battle yet since the rebels ended the cease fire last month. The rebel base was in an area where the rebels smuggle weapons and other supplies in from neighboring countries.

Elsewhere, rebel violence left four dead.
