Rebels seized two British and three Nepalese army officers some 290 kilometers west of the capital.  The British officers were there to assist in the recruiting of young men for the Gurkha battalions in the British army. The rebels oppose this recruiting, which has gone on for over a century.

In several incidents, a dozen rebels and one security guard were killed.
