The king has shut down telephone and Internet communications, and imposed censorship on all media. The Maoists have used the media to terrorize the population, particularly with their threats to "blockade" large portions of the country. Such censorship is a bold move, which may fail, or succeed spectacularly. The king has also arrested many politicians who opposed him, and seized the records of opposition parties.
