The governor of the northern, largely Moslem, Zamfara state, has promised to escalate political violence as street gangs controlled by political rivals violence attack the governors supporters. The Moslem politicians strive to gain more public support by insisting they are all defending Islam. In the last two days, at least four have died in this violence.
