September 29, 2007:
After more than a month without contact, troops on Basilan island ran down several groups of Abu
Sayyaf rebels in several clashes over
the past few days. There have been several dozen casualties among the rebels and security
forces. On nearby Jolo island, Abu
Sayyaf rebels fired a rifle grenade into an army camp, wounding a soldier. This violated the Ramadan
truce the troops were observing.
September 23, 2007:
About a hundred NPA rebels raided a police
outpost, overpowering the four policemen, and taking ten weapons
and some radios.
