The battles south of Grozny center on places like the Argun Gorge, which is a natural supply route from the south for rebels operating around Grozny. The rebels require shelter, food and ammunition. The Russian troops are chasing the rebels from village to village and flying over a hundred warplane sorties a day against anything suspicious that moves in the hills. Russian electronic warfare units monitor rebel use of cell phones and other types of radios. It's a different kind of war, and so far, the rebels have been kept off balance, even though the rebels are better fighters and operating on their own territory.
