Russia has convinced Tajikhistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstand to allow it to deploy air defense stations and units there. It also displays Russia's growing influence in the former Soviet states, and its quickly growing influence in Central Asia.--Stephen V Cole
