A public opinion poll shows that only a quarter of the population would want a member of their family to serve in the armed forces. Even so, 56 percent thought the army was capable of defending the nations. And even though the Cold War is long over, 42 percent of  Russians still feel there is a military threat from the West. Apparently that Soviet era propaganda about the "NATO threat", was built to last.
