In Chechnya, a rebel ambush killed nine soldiers. In other incidents, six soldiers were killed.

The government says it has identified who was responsible for the December 27th truck bombing in Grozny, but were not releasing names yet. The two trucks were driven by men in army uniforms with ID papers. The men, "did not look Chechen", and the trucks had army license plates. Corrupt soldiers in Chechnya are known to sell weapons, ammunition and just about anything else to the rebels (or anyone with cash.)
