In Chechnya, rebel activity has increased, as it normally does in the Summer, when it's easier for the rebels to set up temporary camps in the mountains, and the Summer foliage offers additional places to hide. Most of the rebel activity is against Chechens they feel are working for the Russians. At the same time. Russian troops are known to kidnap Chechen civilians they suspect of working with the rebels. Nearly 300 Chechens have disappeared in this fashion so far this year.
