Elections will be held in Chechnya on August 29th to select a replacement for assassinated provincial leader  Akhmad Kadyrov. Russian president Putin has yet to back a candidate. There are several "pro-Russian" warlords in Chechnya that Putin could choose from. Putin is willing to back anyone who is willing to try and control the anti-Russian warlords, and seems to have a chance of doing so.
