  Starting next year, no more conscript soldiers will be sent to Chechnya. Only volunteers will be used. 

The military also plans to reduce the period of conscript service from two years to one in 2008. But that would mean more people would be taken, and to make that work, there will have to be a crackdown on deferments and draft dodging. The draft is very unpopular, especially the way it is run and the corruption related to buying your way out.
