Forces for the Defense of Democracy (FDD) rebels attacked government positions around the capital. The most intense fighting took place in the hills surrounding Bujumbura, although mortar shells were fired in the southern neighborhoods. Fourteen shells landed in that area, with one house set ablaze. The government was responding with it's own artillery and at least one helicopter gunship. - Adam Geibel
