FNL rebels killed 20 Burundian Army troops who were defending the Mugere dam complex (near Bujumbura). An FNL spokesman claimed a government armored vehicle was destroyed. The most interesting claim was that over 1000 FNL rebels were involved in the attack. Thats a large force, but Mugere is a big target (producing around a third of Burundis electricity). The government did confirm that the dam was attacked but disputed the rebels claims. We could find no reports of electricity disruptions in the capital, though a subsequent wire report said the dams hydroelectric facilities were producing less electric power and that several technicians were missing.
