The African Union will call a meeting next week in Tanzania to discuss implementing a peace agreement in Burundi. Meanwhile, the fighting continues. On September 11, at least 17 people died in an ambush northwest of Bujumbura. The Burundian government claimed 14 schoolchildren and one Burundian soldier died in the ambush. The government blamed the FDD. The FDD categorically denied that it was involved in the incident. On September 10, NGO sources said that around 15,000 refugees had fled from fighting in west Burundi. The sources speculated that the refugees were fleeing from the intra-rebel fighting that occurred last week between the FDD and FNL.
