A senior government official, Colonel Ali Mumin, in charge of a court that enforced discipline among soldiers and militiamen loyal to the transitional government, was kidnapped. It's not known if Colonel Mumin was taken just for ransom (very common in Somalia), or because of a case his court was dealing with (also common.)
