The Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey (head of the Church of England), met with Khartoum government officials and toured a refugee camp. Carey made a special appeal for religious tolerance in Sudan. Many of the rebels in the south are Christians, and a number are Anglicans. The Sudan government (Khartoum) also announced that it would extend a ceasefire in Bahr el-Gazhal province (south Sudan) through July 15.
