The AU Mission in Sudan (AMIS) now has 2,409 soldiers and 244 police officers. These are being worked hard trying to maintain security in refugee camps. In April, AMIS noted that the government had not used aircraft to attack civilians or refugees, nor did the army make any attacks. But pro-government militias continue to raid, with small groups of gunmen attacking women or aid convoys. Most of Darfur is not safe because of this.
