The Islamic radical violence in the south is not slowing down. Total deaths from the violence will be close to 700 for the year. The government is having a hard time recruiting government officials and teachers to work in the southern Moslem provinces. The violence is increasingly directed at the officials and teachers. The intention is to drive away anyone who represents the government, in a first step to establishing an "Islamic State" in the three southern provinces.
