A saboteur at the British Sellafield plutonium reprocessing plant in Cumbria damaged a robot arm used to handle highly radioactive waste, forcing a shutdown of the plant. The Sellafield plant is highly controversial, as environmental and anti-military groups demand its closure. A recent report by the British Nuclear Installations Inspectorate found numerous safety violations at the plant, including falsified safety records. Most European nations have suspended sending fuel rods to Sellafield to be reprocessed. Police believe that the saboteur, who apparently showed little regard for his own safety or that of plant employees, is one of the ten thousand
