Police foiled another LTTE bombing campaign with the arrest of twelve men and seizing 264 pounds of explosives. The government admitted that defense spending would be a billion dollars or more this year, at least 20 percent higher than last year. A fleet of Indian warships moved towards Sri Lanka, apparently to assist in the evacuation of Sri Lankan troops trapped on the Jaffna peninsula. The LTTE rebels are attacking the Jaffna city airport. Despite this, government troops are trying to clear rebels out of areas in the northern part of the peninsula.
