  The LTTE rebels appealed to the UN to back their offer of a ceasefire to allow refugees to flee the combat zone. Police arrested 64 people, mostly ethnic Tamil youths, as suspects in the most recent suicide bombing. World leaders have condemned the attack, making it more difficult for the LTTE to gain recognition and aid for its cause.In the north, several small actions left at least a dozen dead.
