mso-bidi-language: AR-SA"> Rebels in Jaffna launched new attacks in Jaffna. Rebel radio has warned civilians in Jaffna to flee the coming attacks. The new offensive has killed 30 soldiers and wounded 132. The army says it has lost 180 dead and 600 wounded in the last three weeks. The army has about three divisions of troops in action up north. The army's new tactics, relying on heavier use of rockets, artillery and warplanes will now be put to the test in the face of a major rebel offensive. In the past, the army has been unable to stand up to LTTE attacks, which feature small units of infantry encircling army units and causing panic.
