Military Photo: Marine Lightning In The South China Sea

EAST CHINA SEA (March 5, 2018) Sailors stand by as an F-35B Lightning II assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 121 flies over the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1). This marks the first time the aircraft has deployed aboard a U.S. Navy ship and with a Marine Expeditionary Unit in the Indo-Pacific region. VMFA-121 is assigned under the Okinawa-based 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU) and will remain embarked aboard Wasp for a regional patrol to strengthen regional alliances, provide a rapid-response capability and advance the Up-Gunned ESG concept.
