Military Photo: Damage to Gulfport Aquarium

Archives

Gulfport, Miss. (Sept. 9, 2005) National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) aerial image of the damage done to the Marine Life Aquarium in Gulfport, Miss., by Hurricane Katrina, which generated a wave so large that it washed out several bottlenose dolphins into the Gulf of Mexico. The dolphins have been located and are gradually being rescued and moved to in a temporary saltwater pool facility at the Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport. These aboveground pools have the necessary filtration and equipment needed to care for sea mammals, and have been set-up by U.S. Navy marine Mammal Program personnel from San Diego, Calif. 2. Subscribe to our daily newsletter. We’ll send the news to your email box, and you don’t have to come to the site unless you want to read columns or see photos.
  3. You can contribute to the health of StrategyPage. A contribution is not a donation that you can deduct at tax time, but a form of crowdfunding. We store none of your information when you contribute..
