Overnight, UN peacekeepers sought to expel ex-soldiers from a police station 70 kilometers west of the capital, and increased patrols in areas controlled by the former soldiers throughout the country. Two ex-soldiers and two peacekeepers were killed when fighting broke out in two areas. These are the first UN peacekeepers to be killed in action during nearly a year of UN peacekeeping operations.
