Anti-Israeli demonstrations turned violent on the West Bank, with Israeli troops and Palestinian police exchanging gun fire. Three Palestinians were killed by the gunfire, including one policeman. There were two other deaths and hundreds of injuries. The Palestinians were commemorating the losses they have suffered since the founding of Israel. The degree of violence has not been seen in the area for some time.
