Palestinian worshipers on the Dome of the Rock began throwing stones down on Jewish worshipers near the Wailing Wall. Israeli police fired on the stone throwers and the violence escalated. At the end of the day, seven Palestinians were dead and some 220 injured in Jerusalem. The unrest spread to the rest of the Palestinian areas. The Palestinians were upset by the visit to the Temple Mount by conservative politician Ariel Sharon on the 28th. Sharon is not in favor of  an independent Palestinian state.
