  Three hundred armed war veterans attacked the offices of the Center for Democratic Empowerment (CEDE), smashing office equipment and stealing cash and valuables. The CEDE has been a critic of president Charles Taylor's corrupt rule. The country's infrastructure is still in ruins, with no electricity or running water in most areas. Lawlessness is common and the police and army are more involved with corruption than in fighting it.
