  The UN is trying to convince Guinea to open it's border to Liberians fleeing fighting in their country. Some 50,000 Liberian refugees are stuck at the border. Guinea has accepted hundreds of thousands of refugees from war torn Sierra Leone and Liberia. The refugee flood has caused problems in Guinea, as the refugees compete with locals for resources and harbor armed (and violent) bandits and rebels. Guineans are also resentful of the aid the refugees receive.
