The government says it has stopped the LURD advance 160 kilometers north of the capital, but LURD fighters are reported in other areas of the country, some quite close to the capital (where artillery fire could be heard). There is no national police to keep an eye on local rebel operations and the army is unreliable and spread too thin across the country.
