The government announced it had defeated the LURD rebels and retaken the town of Tubmanburg, 60 kilometers north of the capital. Up until this action, it was feared that the rebels were going to surround the capital. Maybe they still will, for journalists are reluctant to get too close to trigger-happy rebels and soldiers out in the bush.
