President Obasanjo has refused to discuss the calls for regional autonomy. The southern Christian states are particularly upset at how the president has allowed the Moslem northern states to impose Sharia religious law. This form of autonomy has been ignored by the federal government and the Christian states want the federal government to either protect Christians in the north, or grant the southern states some measure of autonomy.
