  Although alarmed at the way Nigerians living in the Ivory Coast have been mistreated, the government is reluctant to provide peacekeepers for a multinational force being assembled. American Special Forces have been providing training for Nigerian troops as peacekeepers. In the past (Liberia and Sierra Leone), Nigerian peacekeepers got involved in criminal activity and caused problems rather than solving them. Moreover, there is the potential for war with Cameroon over the disputed Bakassi area.
