On April 20 FDD Hutu rebels attacked in the town of Butwe. One western report said the Burundian Army used airstrikes to counter-attack the FDD around Butwe. Fighting continued in the area on April 21, with reports of FDD guerrillas looting shops in Butwe. On April 22 Hutu rebels with the FDD attacked and burned a beer warehouse in the district of Mugamba.
