Sri Lanka: May 17, 2000


An LTTE bombing attack killed 29 and wounded 80 in the east. The bomb went off near a Buddhist temple during a religious celebration. The government restricted news of this attack to prevent attacks on Tamil civilians by an aroused Sri Lankan population. The LTTE claims to have taken a military base in western Jaffna.
