  The US has refused to back an LTTE call for the partitioning of Sri Lanka into Tamil (Hindus originally from India) and Sinhalese (native Sri Lankans who are Buddhist) parts. The navy intercepted several LTTE boats bringing supplies into Jaffna.   Two rebel boats were sunk.
