Having won control of the government, the former opposition parties. led by Ranil Wickremesinghe, pledged to reopen peace talks with the rebels. Civil disorder after the elections left at least 12 dead. Curfews have been imposed in many areas. In the east, troops killed seven rebels in an ambush.
